- I am a true expert in my field! I have worked with stone and all of its various applications for the last 28 years. I am a stonemason; more specifically, I am a "Scalpellino". In Medieval Italy the stonecutter's guild was called the "Scalpellini"; to this day it is still a functioning body of artisans. One's place in the guild was passed from father to son. I came into this craft with passion; from there I have been fabricating and installing kitchen counters, bathroom vanities and fireplaces for 25 years. I specialize in antique installations, restoration and preservation. My passion is historical and architectural preservation and conservation; this new direction will occupy the second half of my fruitful career.
I came across this article because we have planned to put a horseshoe pitching pit in our backyard. I then was reeled in by the beautiful bas-relief horse that needed restoration and promptly contacted Peter (peter@sfhorseshoepitching.com ) via e-mail to offer my expertise and restoration labor. ReplyDeleteWith great admiration I have followed the restoration of the Horseshoe project in Golden Gate Park. Thomas Sperow of Greco Granite is just the person to do this very intricate undertaking. He brings his considerable expertise to this endeavor but also a highly developed artistic sensibility necessary for this type of restoration where great damage to the art peice has taken place. I know Thomas Spero's work from own experience and cannot praise him highly enough.
